The work “Cancer stem cells as targets for DC-based immunotherapy of colorectal cancer”, written by scientists from the Gdańsk Medical University has been published in “Scientific Reports” – a renowned journal belonging to the Nature Publishing Group.

The project described in the publication concerned the analysis of the potential usefulness of dendritic cells (DC) for the immunotherapy of patients with colorectal cancer. The research is innovative due to the fact that they focused on therapy targeting cancer stem cells (NKM), which are responsible for the pathogenesis of cancer and the development of metastases and remission.

The project was entirely planned and developed by Dr Magdalena Szaryńska and Agata Olejniczak from the Department of Histology in cooperation with surgeons from the General, Endocrinological and Transplant Surgery Clinic of the Medical University of Gdańsk.
