Dr Sabina Lachowicz from the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences to study the antitumor impact of silverberry

20.05.2020

Dr Sabina Lachowicz from the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences will study the antitumor impact of silverberry. For her research, she received a grant under the Miniatura 3 competition organized by the National Science Center.

The multiflorous silverberry is a broad-spreading bush up to 3 meters high. It has strong and pleasantly fragrant flowers that attract pollinating insects, so it is often planted by apiaries. In the United States, it is valued for health benefits of its fruits that contain substances with anti-cancer properties. The silverberry is also a source of many vitamins, microelements, amino acids and polyphenolic compounds and carotenoids.

Dr Lachowicz will examine silverberry fruit and leaves for the content of bioactive compounds with multidirectional biological activity. The laureate is currently on a five-month internship at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada as part of the Dekaban scholarship (The Dr. and Mrs. A. S. Dekaban Foundation).
