Gdańsk scientist wins the prestigious EMBO grant

Dr Michał R. Szymański from the inter-university faculty of biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk becomes a laureate of the prestigious grant of the European Molecular Biology Organization – EMBO Installation Grants.

Dr. Szymański deals with the research of mitochondrial DNA repair mechanisms in humans. These studies may contribute to more effective diagnosis and treatment of cancer or neurodegenerative diseases.

EMBO is an organization consisting of over 1,800 prominent scientists in the field of natural sciences in Europe and abroad. It grants awards to young outstanding scientists with foreign experience for setting up an innovative research laboratory. The winners receive 50,000 Euros per year from 3 to a maximum of 5 years to support the creation of a research group and conduct innovative research.
