Graduates of the Gdańsk University of Technology design a high-performance cooling system for vehicle batteries

03.12.2018

Byotta – a spin-off company created by graduates of the Gdańsk University of Technology has designed a high-performance cooling system for batteries of electric vehicles. The solution will be tested in cooperation with Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Trolejbusowej in Gdynia.

The designed system is to be a combination of an active liquid cooling system using the heat exchangers of the original design and passive cooling using variable phase materials. It is to shorten significantly the time of charging the battery and extend its performance. It also has to recover part of the waste heat to warm the vehicle.

– The aim of our project is to create a temperature management system of the battery that will allow to maintain the optimal temperature of the battery even in extreme situations, i.e. during very fast charging or very dynamic driving – explains the company’s president Mariusz Smentoch.
