During the conference of the Polish-American Historical Society, Dr Piotr Puchalski from the Pedagogical University (UP) in Krakow received the Young Scholar Award for a promising direction of scientific research.

The laureate is an adjunct at the Department of Modern History at the Institute of History and Archival Sciences of the University of Warsaw. He is a member of the Association for Slavic, East European & Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) and the Józef Piłsudski Institute in America.

Currently, he is preparing a publication based on his doctorate, showing the role of the newly founded Polish state in 1918 in the interwar world order based on old and new colonialism (mandate system).

Dr Puchalski will present Polish colonial and emigration projects, emphasizing their impact not only on national policy (industrialization, Jewish presence), but also on international policy (independence of Liberia and Ethiopia, seeking escape for Jewish emigration by various countries and organizations).
