Information Refining Center – a new University of Warsaw spin-off company

The Information Refining Center (CRI) is the latest spin-off company established at the University of Warsaw. Its founders are scientists from the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Bibliology. The company deals with Big Data analysis – large collections of information available in cyberspace. This is the eighth company that operates at the university and the first representing the humanities.

For 7 years, researchers from the Department of Information Technology of the Media of the Faculty of Information Journalism and Bibliology have been conducting research related to the Big Data analysis. Using thousands of robots, they collect information from the indicated Internet sources. Data is collected in thematic databases. There, they are refined and analyzed. Thanks to technology, the scholars managed to predict the results of the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2011 and 2015 and to analyze economic, technological and scientific trends.

The founders of CRI are Prof. Włodzimierz Gogołek, Dr Wiesław Cetera, Piotr Celiński and Dariusz Jaruga.
