Innovative intravascular stent created by scientists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University

The invention of scientists from the Faculty of Medicine at the Collegium Medicum of the Nicolaus Copernicus University “Intravascular stent with properties that accelerate the healing of the implant site and reduce the occurrence of thrombosis” won the gold medal at the International Fair of Inventions and Innovations INTARG 2018.

The award-winning invention is a revolution in intravascular cardiology. The endovascular stent allows to support the implantation at the site of narrowing of the blood vessel to maintain its proper light. In addition to the gold medal, the invention of Dr Maciej Gagat, Dr Dariusz Grzanka and Prof. Alina Grzanka was honored with the Award of WIIPA World Invention Intellectual Property Associations and the special prize Politehnica of Bucharest.

The invention will increase the efficacy of vasodilation procedures, especially coronary arteries, by balloon angioplasty with stent implantation and reduce postoperative complications.
