Innovative method of modelling tree growth developed at the University of Agriculture in Krakow

03.12.2018

The team of Prof. Jarosław Socha from the Faculty of Forestry University of Agriculture in Krakow developed an innovative method of modelling tree growth with use of the results of aerial laser scanning.

– Until now, the estimation of tree growth in large areas of the country was imprecise and based on obsolete models. We have shown as the first in the world that repeated aerial scanning allows to work out the tree growth models and observations of trees on tens of thousands of hectares or even throughout Poland. Previously, this was impossible due to logistical reasons – says Prof. Socha.

The new method was developed thanks to funds obtained from the National Center for Research and Development.
