International Center for Ophthalmology Research to be created in Warsaw

The Foundation for Polish Science has announced the results of the next nationwide competition in the International Research Agendas program. This year almost PLN 35 million has been awarded to the project of Prof. Maciej Wojtkowski from the Department of Physical Chemistry of Biological Systems at the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS and Prof. Krzysztof Palczewski from the School of Medicine at the University of California in Irvine in the USA.

The researchers will create a new scientific center in Warsaw, which will investigate the dynamics and plasticity of the human eye, which in the long run will bring the development of new therapies and diagnostic tools helpful in the case of various visual dysfunctions.

The International Center for Translational Eye Research (ICTER) will be established as a sub-unit of the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
