Invention of scientists associated with the University of Silesia to facilitate the preparation of elastomers

01.07.2019

Researchers of the University of Silesia in Katowice have developed a new method of obtaining triblock macrodiols – an intermediate used primarily for the synthesis of polyurethane elastomers. The solution developed has obtained the patent.

The scientists who developed the solution are Dr Eng. Zbigniew Grobelny, Dr Andrzej Swinarew, Dr Justyna Jurek-Suliga, Eng. Kinga Skrzeczyna, Jadwiga Gabor and Marta Łężniak.

Elastomers resemble rubber in terms of properties, but are characterized by better technical parameters. They are made of elements used in machines or devices that are exposed to scratches or friction. They work well as protective coatings for various parts made of metal and plastics. They are ecological, have no negative impact on the natural environment, are successfully used in the automotive, machinery and chemical industries also in the medical and even food industry.
