Jagiellonian University establishes its first university council

The Senate of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow appointed the first university council to perform their activities until the end of next year. It consists of seven people, including three from outside the JU community. The creation of such bodies at public universities is provided by the new Act on Higher Education, which entered into force on October 1, 2018.

In accordance with the provisions of the Law on Higher Education and Science, the Senate of the Jagiellonian University appointed the first university council, which included: Prof. Grażyna Stochel, Dr Dorota Szumska, Prof. Jerzy Wordliczek, Dr Mikołaj Budzanowski, Prof. Jacek Purchla, Dr Zbigniew Inglot and Jakub Bakonyi.

The University Council will give an opinion on the draft of the new Statute of the Jagiellonian University, will indicate candidates for the rectors to be elected in 2020. It will also accept the sale of certain assets of the Jagiellonian University.
