Koszalin University of Technology to launch new research and implementation center for surface engineering

25.01.2019

The Koszalin University of Technology (PK) is launching a research and implementation center for surface engineering, process design and simulation as well as vibroacoustic research. The cost of the project is PLN 3.35 million.

The Center is to refine and expand the research and service offer of the university in the field of surface treatment, including heat treatment, thermo-chemical, plasma and PVD coatings (application of a hardener). The University has equipment for applying coatings using PVD and diamond-like coatings based on carbon.

– Our activity is to modify the surface of the tools to increase their durability. This can be achieved by plasma nitriding and application of anti-wear coatings – says Vice-rector of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Prof. Witold Gulbiński.

Equipping tools with wear-resistant coatings often extend their durability, which reduces production costs. The University has already implemented several such research and development projects.
