Lublin Scientists develop a low-budget ventilator

14.05.2020

Scientists from the Lublin University of Technology (PL) and the Medical University (UM) in Lublin have completed the construction of a ventilator. It is a low-budget device used to support breathing in people with respiratory failure, e.g. in the case of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

-The prototype of the device was created using cheap, widely available materials and 3D printed elements. We’ve been working on it for over a month. The device was developed with use of an electric motor and gear system enabling cyclical compression of the AMBU bag for manual resuscitation. The estimated cost of implementation does not exceed 1 000 PLN – said Prof. Ryszard Maciejewski, project coordinator, head of the Department of Human Anatomy of the Medical University in Lublin, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

Prof. Maciejewski worked with Dr Eng. Marcin Maciejewski from the Department of Teleinformatics and Medical Diagnostics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science PL and Eng. Robert Karpiński from the Department of Fundamentals of Machine Design and Mechatronics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering PL.
