The Museum of Medicine and Pharmacy was officially opened at the Faculty of Pharmacy with the Division of Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of Silesia. For the needs of the exhibition, the ground floor of Student Dormitory nr 2 in Sosnowiec was adapted.

In the museum visitors can watch several thousand of exhibits – including the apparatus of a lung machine made by Prof. Tadeusz Paliwoda, cardiac surgeon of the Silesian Medical Academy, operating table of Prof. Wiktor Bross and the first Polish hip joint endoprosthesis designed by the team of Dr Janusz Daab from Piekary Śląskie.

The museum will serve as a didactic aid for students, and will contribute to popularizing knowledge about the achievements of Silesian and Zagłębie medicine and the pioneering achievements of doctors and pharmacists working in Silesia. The university has spent over PLN 2.6 million from its own resources for the renovation and equipment of the museum. 100,000 PLN was allocated by the City Hall of Sosnowiec.
