New forms of medical care for former miners and steel workers

12.02.2018

New Silesian Clinical and Scientific Center for Prevention and Treatment of Environmental, Civilization and Old Age Diseases will be created in Zabrze.

In the cities of Silesia, where heavy, mining and chemical industries have been located, hundreds of thousands of old people suffer from complex diseases related to old age  and work in harmful conditions. Treating them requires highly specialized medical care

– In Silesian post-industrial cities – said Prof. Marian Zembala, initiator of establishing the center, director of the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases – people live 4-6 years shorter than on average in Poland, heart diseases are more often connected with the so-called co-morbidities.

The first patients may come to the center in Zabrze at the end of 2021. (kp)
