“Pamela Mission” becomes the best educational initiative under the Global Space Balloon Challenge

10.06.2019

The “Pamela Mission” project, co-created by scientists of University of Silesia, became the best educational initiative within the Global Space Balloon Challenge 2019. The aim of the scientists is to check the impact of conditions in the stratosphere on living organisms and new materials.

As part of the “Pamela Mission” project (Plant, Aranae and Microorganism Exposure to the Light Activity In the Near Space Environment) living organisms – microorganisms, spiders, spider eggs, selected barley seedlings and resistant Arabidopsis as well as hydrogel membrane for the construction of future spacecraft have been sent to the stratosphere (37 km high).\

The competition organized by the Stanford Space Initiative invites teams conducting stratospheric scientific experiments with the use of a balloon. It serves primarily to popularize the science and inspiration of future generations of scientists and engineers.
