PhD student at the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław wins a gold medal at the Geneva exhibition

Joanna Kozłowska from the University of Life Sciences in Wroclaw won a gold medal in the medical category and a special prize of the Malaysian Association for Scientific Research at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva.

PhD student of the chemistry department at the Wrocław university presented a series of 46 inventions regarding the preparation of new derivatives of flavonoids – organic compounds naturally occurring in plants. In the competition she competed in the M class – related to medicine, surgery, hygiene, orthopedics and materials for the disabled.

The research conducted jointly with the Wroclaw Medical University checks the activity of the compounds obtained by the PhD student on cancer cell lines. “In our research we focus on colon cancer, in the future we plan research on other cell lines, including breast cancer. The first results are very promising, “says the winner.
