Physicists from the University of Lodz looking for a safer way to produce nuclear energy

16.07.2018

Researchers from the Department of Nuclear Physics and Radiation Security at the University of Lodz, participate in an international research project using the n_TOF device. The project aims to develop a safer way of producing nuclear energy. Research is being carried out at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva.

The n_TOF device, which is located at CERN in Geneva, allows for accurate observation of neutrons, i.e. particles, occurring in the atomic nucleus. The n_TOF machine is the only such construction in the world.

About 150 researchers from 43 scientific institutes and universities participate in the project. Three nuclear physicists from the University of Lodz are the only Poles participating in it. The research of physicists from Lodz is financed from the grant of the National Science Center.
