Polish-Australian discovery to slow down neurodegenerative diseases

17.09.2018

Dr Sebastian Glatt from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow in collaboration with researchers from Australia discovered the molecular basis of the progressive degeneration of nerve cells. This discovery gives hope for the future development of ways to slow down the neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s diseases.

Dr Glatt is the laureate of the FIRST TEAM program of the Foundation for Polish Science. The results of Polish-Australian research have been described in Nature Communications.

As the Foundation emphasizes, the discovery of scientists from Poland and Australia deepens the knowledge about the mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease formation and may be the basis for developing in the future ways to slow down the process of nerve cell death occurring in these diseases.
