The Sejm has passed a law on supporting Polish science from the Polish Science Fund. The bill was prepared by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW).

The fund will be created by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) and will be co-financed with PLN 500 million. The Fund is to finance the Virtual Research Institute (WIB), which will be an innovative structure for conducting scientific research. The way of its functioning will differ from the typical method of financing research in Poland. Financial resources will be allocated to the creation and development of research teams.

The act, which will now be directed to the Senate, will allow the creation of a new mechanism for financing research works and their commercialization in Poland.
