Polish universities join the international research project on dyspnoea

The Medical University of Gdańsk together with the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and foreign partners of the BETTER-B project (Better Treatments for Breathlessness) started a research in early 2019 to change the treatment of severe dyspnoea in people suffering from respiratory diseases, especially chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and interstitial lung disease.

BETTER-B is financed from the EU program for research and innovation “Horizon 2020” and is carried out in a consortium consisting of universities from Poland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Great Britain and Australia and the European Respiratory Society.

The project includes studies on the influence of dyspnoea on the quality of life, on various types of dyspnoea and on the improvement of treatment. Its ultimate goal will be to alleviate suffering and improve the quality of life of patients, their friends, family and carers.
