Pomeranian Science and Technology Park in Gdynia investigating bioactive chokeberry juice

30.11.2018

Conducting research at the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park in Gdynia as part of the InnovaBio Pomorze project, students discovered that bioactive chokeberry juice contains five times more polyphenols than the red wine, famous for these ingredients.

Five different wines from the medium price range were analyzed for their polyphenol content. All tests showed that chokeberry juice beats the spots off any wine competitor. The research was carried out at the request of a small Polish producer who, after receiving the results, immediately wants to start production of chokeberry juice on a prototype production line.

Vegetable polyphenols are part of the plant immune mechanism, inhibiting the development of insects and even viruses that attack them. Polyphenols supplied in the diet are considered to be beneficial for human health and are attributed to the anti-cancer effect and to prevent diseases of the circulatory system.
