Prof. Piotr Sztompka to hold an open lecture at the Jagiellonian University

The Department of Contemporary Culture Research at the Institute of Sociology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow invites participants to a lecture by Prof. Piotr Sztompka “On the notion of culture once more: The classical concept of culture in a new, original approach”. The meeting will take place on December 11 at the Institute of Sociology.

Piotr Sztompka is a retired professor at the Jagiellonian University and an active professor at the Father Józef Tischner Higher European School in Krakow. He is a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Academy of Learning, Academia Europaea (London) and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (Cambridge, Massachusetts). In the years 2002-2006 he was the president of the International Sociological Association (ISA). He is a laureate of the New Europe Prize (1995), the Foundation Award for Polish Science (2006) and twice the prizes of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland.

Professor Sztompka is a doctor honoris causa of four universities: in Moscow, Stockholm, Krakow and Warsaw. He is the author of 30 books and over 300 scientific articles that were published in 15 languages.
