Professor Timothy Snyder becomes honorary doctor of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University

The Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin awarded Prof. Timothy Snyder – American historian, professor Yale University, specializing in contemporary history of Central and Eastern Europe with the honorary doctorate of UMCS.

The title of doctor honoris causa was awarded to Prof. Snyder by the UMCS Senate, at the request of the UMCS Humanities Faculty Council.

Professor Timothy Snyder received the title in recognition of his outstanding contribution to understanding the history of the twentieth century and the courage to proclaim difficult truth, for constant reminding about the ethical dimension of the historian’s work and social intellectual responsibility, for the exceptional ability to show Poland’s history in a broader European perspective and for long-term and fruitful cooperation with the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.
