Dr Aleksandra Rutkowska from the Department of Nursing Management of the Medical University of Gdansk has patented her invention: “Diagnostic kit for the detection of bisphenol A (BPA) in urine”.

Thanks to the cooperation of the Medical University with the Gdańsk University of Technology and the National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene, a diagnostic kit has been created for the determination of BPA in biological material. It will allow to monitor cheaply and regularly human exposure to BPA and reduce individual exposure in everyday life.

Bisphenol A is one of the most common endocrine active substances, due to its similarity to steroid hormones. It can increase the risk of health disorders and lifestyle diseases. The invention may be of key importance in the prevention of hormone-dependent cancers, obesity and infertility, as well as in the protection of pregnant women, nursing women and children.
