Dr Anna Mazurkiewicz, Prof. Associate of the history department of the University of Gdańsk has become this year’s winner of the prestigious Willi Paul Adams Award granted by the Organization of American Historians (OAH) – the world’s largest professional association dealing with researching American history.

OAH awarded the book “Political refugees from Central and Eastern Europe in American Cold War Policy 1948-1954”. The Commission appreciated the monograph for “impressively detailed investigation of the origin and dynamics of US involvement on behalf of refugees from Central and Eastern Europe in the early years of the Cold War.”

The Willi Paul Adams Award is awarded every two years to the author of the best book on American history published in a foreign language. The prize (formerly the Foreign Language Book Prize) comes from Willi Paul Adams, who was an active member of OAH in Germany and a supporter of the internationalization of American history.
