Researcher of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences to receive nearly PLN 1.2 million under the ALPHORN competition

12.05.2020

Professor Anna Michalska-Ciechanowska from the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław received a grant within the ALPHORN competition organized by the National Science Center in cooperation with the Swiss agency Swiss National Science Foundation.

The researcher will get almost PLN 1.2 million to study fruit powders, valuable natural sources of bioactive compounds that can be used regardless of the seasonality of fruit, but also can be natural substitutes for artificial supplements. Preparation of fruit powders from juices is associated with the elimination of water up to 90 percent.

The scientist is testing rosehip juices, which are a valuable source of vitamin C, polyphenolic compounds and carotenoids, as well as from Kamchatka berry, which is distinguished by a high content of anthocyanins, natural dyes used in the food industry.

The Wrocław researcher will implement her project with Prof. Wilfried Andlauer from HES-SO Valais-Wallis University of Applied Sciences in Sion.
