Researchers from Poland and Germany developed a fish and a seal – biomimetic submarines

25.10.2018

Scientific-industrial consortium composed of Naval Academy in Gdynia, Krakow University of Technology, Industrial Institute of Automation and Measurements, R&D Company Forkos Ltd, the Bundeswehr Naval Technology Center and the Fraunhofer Institute presented two biomimetic submarines.

The constructions were tested in the Gulf of Gdańsk near the pier in Mechelinki. During the show, the underwater vehicles moved autonomously on the set trajectory, bypassing obstacles and recording the set signals.

As part of the European Defense Agency project launched in 2015, two BUVs (Biomimetic Underwater Vehicle) imitated a fish and a seal. In the future, both will act as a shoal of biomimetic underwater vehicles. In 2017, the Polish-German consortium was joined by research centers from Portugal, which are developing the third submarine.
