Researchers from Poznan University of Technology describe the structure of atoms from space

12.06.2019

Researchers from the Poznan University of Technology are working on creating a precise description of the atom structure. The goal is to determine the exact wave function to be able to predict the properties of atoms originating from space.

Thanks to the use of the computational power of the Microsoft Azure cloud, physicists from the Department of Quantum Engineering and Metrology at the Poznań university work on creating a precise description of the structure of the atom that can be used to describe the properties of the elements occurring in nature.

Researchers measure the waves of the spectral lines of the atoms of the elements studied, then these data are exported to the Azure cloud, where further calculations are made. Knowing the exact wave function will enable to predict the properties of atoms, which will provide the better interpretation of data from space.
