Researchers from the Polish Academy of Sciences conducted a statistical analysis of the bitcoin market

22.10.2018

The Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow carried out a detailed statistical analysis of the bitcoin (BTC) market. Its results have been published in the renowned scientific journal “Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science”. The analysis puts Bitcoin, and potentially other cryptocurrencies, in a surprisingly positive light.

The analysis included changes in bitcoin prices in the period from 2012 to April 2018, recorded in one-minute sequences and variability of return rates.

The most important statistical parameters of the bitcoin market clearly indicate that for many months it has met all the important criteria of financial maturity. It seems that in the case of other cryptocurrencies, a similar transformation may be expected – says Prof. Stanisław Drożdż from the IFJ PAN and Krakow University of Technology.
