Researchers of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun joins a consortium for the economy of tomorrow

31.05.2019

A group of scientists from the Faculty of Chemistry at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (UMK) joined the consortium implementing the project: “Advanced biocomposites for tomorrow’s BIOG-NET economy”.

The subject of the research is the use of microorganisms to search for innovative solutions in the design and manufacture of new, mixed nanocomposite, porous inorganic materials (metal-protein type). The results will allow for a better understanding of the mechanisms of biological synthesis of inorganic matter by selected microorganisms and the development of biosynthesis methods for nanocomposite materials.

The consortium consists of UMK, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Warsaw University of Technology, Białystok University of Technology, University of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and the University of Szczecin. Industrial partners are business entities: Toruń Zakłady Materiałów Opatrunkowych S.A., Sygnis sp. Z o.o. and AdvaChemLab sp. o.o.
