Scholars from Krakow build a new generation magnetic resonance

21.02.2018

Research of Dr Szymon Pustelny and his team from the Department of Photonics, Institute of Physics of the Jagiellonian University paves the way to create new nuclear magnetic resonance devices without the disadvantages of currently used equipment. Heavy and expensive magnets will not be necessary.

– We propose a new approach – explains Dr. Pustelny – use of none or very weak magnetic field and optical magnetometers.

Researchers from the Jagiellonian University check the possibility of changing the preparation of samples or objects intended for resonance studies. They use a physical basis for signal analysis other than currently used. Due to that, they achieve information about the structure of molecules, the strength of chemical bonds, without using expensive, superconducting magnets.

– In the perspective, it will allow to recognize chemical substances – stressed Dr. Pustelny – and to detect liquid explosives. (Kp)
