Scientific conference in Vienna about memory and oblivion of German crimes

On September 25-26, 2018 the Scientific Station of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Vienna organizes the conference “Forgotten and remembered. Memory and oblivion of German Nazi repression, concentration and extermination camps “.

Participants of the conference will listen to over a dozen lectures and presentations devoted to the memory and oblivion of German crimes during World War II.

Stephan Lehnstaedt from Touro-College in Berlin will give a lecture “German (non) memory of extermination camps within Action Reinhardt: Bełżec, Sobibór, Treblinka.”, Sławomir Buryła from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn will bring closer the issue of lager literature, Paweł Kosinski from the Institute of National Remembrance in Warsaw will give a lecture on the instrumentalization of memory on the example of SS-Hauptsturmführer Karl Chmielewski, the commandant of the Gusen camp, presented in the memoirs of Polish prisoners and his son Werner.
