Scientist of Wrocław University of Science and Technology studying the power of photon flux

07.05.2019

Karolina Orłowska from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology is researching the force of the photon flux hitting the object. Her research can be used in biological and chemical sciences, e.g. measuring molecular forces.

A PhD student from the Faculty of Electronics of Microsystems and Photonics uses MiсroEleсtroMechanical systems for measurements. They are much smaller, lighter and faster than their macroscopic counterparts. The task of these small systems is to convert a mechanical signal into an electrical one.

The intention of the PhD student is to create a microscales, based on solutions used in the electrical scales – a device used by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology to measure kilograms. Scientists found the pattern from Sevres to be inaccurate. That is why they have developed a different measurement method. They calculate the mass with the use of an electrical scales, balancing the weight with a force acting on the conductor with the current in the magnetic field.
