06.04.2018

Białystok University of Technology, Medical University of Bialystok and company Nantes Nanotechnology received the patent for the invention ” Substitute of natural saliva”.

This invention was designed by the scientists Prof. Jan Dąbrowski and Dr Eng Joanna Mystkowska from the Białystok University of Technology and Prof. Halina Car and Dr Katarzyna Niemirowicz from the Medical University of Bialystok. The essence of the invention is a substitute for oral saliva with favorable physicochemical and tribological properties (related to friction). The preparation of artificial saliva, composed of mucin, xanthan gum and colloidal nanogold solution, was prepared on the basis of physiological saline treated with low-temperature and low-pressure plasma – informs Białystok University of Technology.

The role of the preparation is to moisten the mouth and reduce friction in the dental system. This is especially important for people with salivary disorders, e.g. people who have undergone cancer therapy or use drugs that inhibit the secretion of saliva, such as depression medications.
