Scientists from the Polish Academy of Sciences studying changes in the Polish countryside in 1918-2018

16.08.2019

Researchers from the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) collected memories describing the fate of rural families. They will share the conclusions during the conference ‘One Hundred Years of Polish Village Development’, organized on October 10 and 11, 2019 in Warsaw. During the event participants will be able to see an exhibition of the diaries.

The beginning of the program was the competition “One hundred years of my farm”. It was announced by the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IRWiR PAN) together with the Polish Agricultural Publishing House.

55 people shared their private stories and unique photos. The collected material describes personal experiences and events creating the image of the Polish village over the last century. Pre-war poverty, wandering due to displacement during World War II, difficult returns after 1945 are just some of the topics in the diaries.

Conference ‘One hundred years of Polish village development. Interdisciplinary intergenerational dialogue” will be the culmination of a research project implemented by the IRWiR PAN, whose theme was the development of the Polish country in 1918-2018.
