Scientists from Torun studied Peter Rubens’ paintings in London

Professor Piotr Targowski from the Institute of Physics at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and Dr. Magdalena Iwanicka from the Institute of Monuments and Conservation carried out research on the monumental paintings of Peter Paul Rubens on the vault of the Whitehall Banqueting House in London – informs the University of Toruń.

Torun scientists stayed in London from 12 to 16 March 2018 at the invitation of the Historic Royal Palace. Using OCT optical tomography, they analyzed the structure and the condition of repeatedly restored pictures.

It is part of a multidisciplinary campaign conducted within the MOLAB offer (mobile laboratory) of the international research project IPERION CH (Integrated Platform for the European Research Infrastructure ON Cultural Heritage) implemented in the Horizon 2020 program.
