Scientists of the University of Life Sciences in Poznań to examine the effects of betaine

22.10.2018

Researchers from the Institute of Human Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Life Sciences in Poznan will carry out studies aimed at assessing the effects of betaine supplementation on body composition, physical fitness and betaine metabolism in the group of men training CrossFit. The project is financed by the National Science Center.
Betaine is a compound that was first isolated from beets. It is also produced in the human body with choline. In the sport aspect, it has been shown to increase muscle mass while reducing the amount of abdominal fat. This suggests the potential benefits of using it by athletes.

Betaine also prevents cell dehydration, which is why it seems that it can affect the ability to exercise. Poznan scientists want to examine the exact mechanism of action of betaine and determine its most effective dose.
