Silesian scientists developed an organic bacteriostatic material

12.03.2019

The scientists of University of Silesia and the Silesian Medical University in Katowice have developed a new organic material to prevent the growth and reproduction of bacteria. It will be able to cover medical products and everyday objects.

Toothbrushes, interiors of shower cubicles, in-ear headphones, keyboards, and even cell phones are the objects on which surfaces bacteria grow in case of use. They can be covered with impurities of sebum, food leftovers or dust, becoming an excellent breeding ground for microorganisms.

The authors of the invention are scientists from the Faculty of Computer Science and Materials Science of the University of Silesia: Dr Andrzej Swinarew; Tomasz Flak; Marta Łężniak, Jadwiga Gabor, Dr Hubert Okła and Klaudia Kubik, and also Beata Rozwadowska, from the Silesian Medical University in Katowice. The result of their research has been patented.
