03.10.2019

Spin-out company of the Gdańsk University of Technology “Chitone” obtained approx. PLN 5.5 million under the “Fast Track” National Research and Development Center competition for the development of ChitoVelum® Pro technology – a patented method of dissolving chitosan using carbonic acid.

The method developed at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Gdańsk University of Technology is applicable in the agri-food industry. The company is working out an edible coating to extend the freshness of food products such as fruit, fish and vegetables. Thanks to its unique composition, the envelope will be 100% natural, and its use is intended to slow down the rate of water loss, as well as protect products from bacterial and fungal infection during transport and storage.

The company has also finalized talks with a private investor who will finance a long-term investment program under a contract worth over PLN 21 million.
