Students of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow develop a solar airplane

15.07.2019

On Wednesday, July 10, 2019, students of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow organized the premiere show of a solar airplane.

An unmanned vehicle powered exclusively by solar energy was presented at the Museum of Polish Aviation. This is the first student project of this type in Poland.

The solar plane designed by the AGH Solar Plane team has a wingspan of 3.8 m, weighs 5 kg and can reach speeds of about 50 km / h. During the day it takes energy from 48 photovoltaic panels placed on the wings. Their power depends on the intensity of the sun, from 150 to 180 W, which fully covers the demand for energy during the flight.

AGH Solar Plane is a student science club whose aim is to disseminate modern technologies combining electromobility with renewable energy sources. The team, founded in October 2017, currently includes about 50 people and has already achieved successes at scientific conferences in Japan and the United States.
