Students of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology have won four medals of the SAE Aero West competition in the USA. At the California Van Nuys airport, the young constructors took second place in the general classification of the most demanding Advanced class.

Students from the Academic Aviation Club competed in two categories – Micro and Advanced, which goal was a simulated colonization of Mars. It was necessary to rise to a height of about 30 m and throw down the “habitats” in the form of dozens of foam football balls and a dozen or so half-liter bottles of water. The second task was to drop three fully autonomous gliders attached to the mother plane.

SAE Aero West competitions are held from 1995 onwards. They are organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers. Students from technical universities from around the world compete in it. They design and develop remotely controlled aircraft models that are supposed to take as much weight as possible with the lowest possible own weight.
