Success of students of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow

Students of the Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Kraków (AGH) won the European qualifiers in two prestigious oil and gas competitions. They won individual SPE Europe Regional Student Paper Contest and team PetroBowl competition.

As a reward, they will represent Europe in the world finals that will take place at the end of September and the beginning of October in Calgary (Canada) during the most important conference of the oil industry Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE).

In the team competition, students representing the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas as well as the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection defeated other teams from European universities. In an individual competition, Michał Figiel from the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas took the first place in the Undergraduate category for his work titled “Randomness of geophysical log data” on the use of fractal calculus and chaos theory for the quantitative description of irregularities in geophysical curves.
