Scientists of the Interdisciplinary Center for Modern Technologies of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń examined how the human brain changes during cognitive training. The results of their research were published in the prestigious journal Nature Communications.

– The aim of our research was to expand knowledge about how functional brain networks optimize their organization during the performance of cognitive tasks of increasing difficulty levels, and how this reorganization pattern is changing during cognitive training – says Dr Karolina Finc from the research team.

Scientists examined the brain activity of 46 healthy volunteers. The scientists used functional magnetic resonance imaging. The tests took place before the training and two, four and six weeks after it. The results can help understand what part of brain is responsible for the fact that someone learns faster and someone else and what the characteristics of the brain network affect it.
