31.05.2019

Two teams of students from Wrocław University of Science and Technology advanced to the semi-finals of the competition for the creating Martian base for a thousand people organized by the Mars Society. The authors of the “Ideacity” and the “Twardowsky” projects joined the group of 25 best teams from around the world.

Participants of the Mars Colony Prize Competition had to create a project of a self-sufficient Martian colony for a thousand people. It should import the least amount of goods from the Earth, and at the same time produce goods for export. Semi-finalists include teams from the USA, Great Britain, Japan, Poland, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland and Israel.

Assumption of the competition is that the colony produces food for its residents, just like building materials needed for its development. Self-sufficiency also means that the base is constantly producing clothes, vehicles, machines and many everyday products, as people in a typical Earth city.
