Ultrafast computer connection between Poland and Germany

03.07.2019

European XFEL and the National Center for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Otwock-Świerk near Warsaw intend to establish the first ultrafast computer connection between Germany and Poland.

The aim of the project is to use the Świerk Computer Center (CIŚ) in NCBJ for processing and analyzing data generated in the European XFEL. A dedicated computer connection between Hamburg and NCBJ will ensure a transfer rate of 100 gigabits per second (Gbit / s). The connection will be about 100 times faster than the current European XFEL internet connection with other research institutes.

The project of installing a new fast connection for data transfer will include: European XFELб NCBJ,  German National Research and Education Network (DFN), Supercomputing and Networking Center of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry in Poznan (PSNC), Scientific and Academic Computer Network (NASK) and Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY).
