University of Gdańsk researchers receive L’Oreal-UNESCO scholarships

Researchers at the University of Gdańsk, Dr Ewelina Król and Karolina Pierzynowska – have won the “L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women and Science” program.

Dr Ewelina Król from the intercollegiate faculty of biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk received a postdoctoral scholarship for the project “Development of innovative strategies for combating viral infections in humans with particular emphasis on hepatitis C virus, tick-borne encephalitis virus and Zika virus through the use of chemically synthesized therapeutic agents and new generation vaccines”.

Karolina Pierzynowska, MA from the biology department of the University of Gdańsk, received a scholarship for PhD students for the project “Induction of autophagy as a mechanism of genistein action in the experimental therapy of neurodegenerative diseases”.
This year, a record number of 144 candidates from 39 institutions applied for scholarships. The winners include 6 Polish researchers.
