University of Silesia to hold a conference “Man in relation to animals. Myths – stereotypes – prejudices”

The Animal Studies Laboratory – Third Culture at the Faculty of Philology and the Institute of Philology of the East Slavic University of Silesia invite participants on September 26 and 27 to the 4th International Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference “Man in relation to animals. Myths – stereotypes – prejudices.”

The organizers want to research the complex human-animal relationship in its various aspects: cultural, ethical, philosophical, historical, religious, social, ethnographic – with particular emphasis on accompanying myths, stereotypes and prejudices about animals.

The topics of the conference include: traditional ideas about animals; animals in contemporary communications; animal as a subject / object of scientific reflection and relation to animals in the past and today.

The honorary guest of the conference will be Karol Darwin’s great-great-granddaughter – Ruth Padel – poet, laureate of many prestigious awards, who is interested in natural sciences and ecology.
