University of Wroclaw invites participants to meet Dr Fred Stern

The guest of the University of Wroclaw will be Dr. Fred Stern, a psychologist and psychoanalyst from New York, who will tell about the history of his family that originates from Wroclaw. The protagonists of the story will be Dr. Catherine Stern, – his grandmother and Prof. Fritz Stern- his father.

Catherine Stern (1894-1973) was the founder of the first kindergarten Montessori in Wroclaw. After emigration to the USA, in cooperation with Max Wertheimer, one of the creators of Gestalt psychology, she created a method for calculating and basics of mathematics for children in pre-school and early school age – Stern Math (Structural Arithmetic).

Fritz Stern (1926-2016) was an outstanding historian, who for nearly 50 years was associated with Columbia University in New York. He researched and explained the history of Europe in particular Germany. He was a friend of Polish Wrocław, he was awarded the title of honored doctor of the University of Wroclaw.

Fred Stern will visit Wrocław on October 2 to participate in the receiving the Fritz Stern Professorship by a journalist Anne Applebaum.
