Village renewal – escape from urbanization

09.02.2018

Prof. Irena Niedźwiecka-Filipiak and Dr Zbigniew Kuriata from the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław were awarded by the local government of the Opole Region for participation in the Rural Renewal Program.

– The restoration of the village began in Western Europe and was a response to the widespread urbanization of the villages. This did not prevent from the depopulation of rural areas, on the contrary, despite improving living conditions, the young people still fled to the cities – explains Prof. Irena Niedźwiecka-Filipiak in the journal “Głos Uczelni”.

As Wrocław scientists emphasized that the first association with the name of the program is misleading. The renewal of the village is not only about the renovation of buildings. It is a renewal of both the material and spiritual lifestyle of the villagers.

The Regional administration offices are responsible for the implementation of the Village Renewal program.
